Sailing is all about relaxing and having fun. There is an old saying; “Sailing is about the journey while powerboating is all about the destination.”
For those new to sailing, understanding the parts of the boat, how things work, the forces that move the sailboat, and what the sail/no sail zones are will help you enjoy your time on the water as well. There are several books on this subject, but the one I highly recommend for new sailors is “Sailing Fundamentals” by Gary Jobson.
"The art of the sailor is to leave nothing to chance."

Anyone interested in taking Sailing Classes (Basic or Advanced) or even a Basic Boater Safety class, please let me know. If there is enough interest, I can try to work out a group discount. Please read the “Letter written by Michael Campbell” posted on the “Baltimore-Annapolis Sailing Club Discussion Forum” message board for some interesting thoughts from a sailboat owners perspective.
“My goal in sailing isn't to be brilliant or flashy in individual races, just to be consistent over the long run.”

Sailboat owners looking for crew. Please contact me to have one of our Organizers meet with you and review the condition of your boat and your skill level. This step is needed to determine what type of calls for crew that can be posted for your event. We don’t want to pair an inexperienced Captain/Skipper with a novice crew.
Now let me talk about safety. Please keep in mind that you must wear a life jacket to participate in a BASC sailing event. The Sailboat will be equipped with enough life jackets for all, but if you want one that fits comfortably and does not dirty or stain your clothes, you might want to bring your own.
Please make sure you are aware of the Meetup.com “Terms & Conditions”. Most important is Section 6.
Remember to check our message board frequently. Since this is a new group, I am constantly updating it and/or posting new information.
Now that lets go out and have some fun….
Hope to see you on an event soon;
Chris
“It is good to have an end to journey toward, but it is the journey that matters in the end. “
